What are the advantages of photoelectric coders and where are their main applications?

2021-07-22

The photoelectric code disk is made of optical glass, with many concentric code channels engraved on it. Each code channel has transparent and opaque parts arranged in a certain pattern.

The photoelectric encoder angle meter is a commonly used instrument that uses the photoelectric encoder to accurately measure angles. When the light source forms a narrow beam of light through a large-aperture aspherical condenser and irradiates the code disk, the photoelectric device located behind the slit and the output signal are determined by the angle position of the code disk; The output signal is amplified, demodulated (detecting "0" or "1" levels), shaped, and if necessary, error correction and memory circuits are added. It is then equivalently transformed and decoded for display.

The advantage of a photoelectric encoder is that there is no contact wear, allowing for high speed, high frequency response, stability, reliability, durability, and high accuracy; Its disadvantages are complex structure and high price. Optoelectronic coders have been widely used in fields such as CNC machine tools, servo motors, robots, rotary machinery, transmission machinery, instruments and office equipment, automatic control technology, and detection sensing technology, and their application areas are constantly expanding.

When working, light is projected onto the code disk, which rotates with the moving object. The light passing through the bright area passes through the slit and is received by the photosensitive element. The arrangement of the photosensitive element corresponds one-to-one with the code channel. For the signals output by the photosensitive element in the bright and dark areas, the former is "1" and the latter is "0". When the code disk rotates in different positions, the combination of the output signals of the photosensitive element reflects a certain pattern of digital quantities, representing the angular displacement of the code disk axis.

Optoelectronic coders are divided into three encoding methods: binary, decimal, and cyclic.
